Soil is at risk from a wide range of man-made and natural pressures including climate change, land use change and land management practices. Yarshagumba – biological wonder

Cordyceps sinensis with its common name Yarshagumba is a unique fusion of a fungus and a worm. It is the larva of a Himalayan ghost moth that has been transformed by a fungus. In Tibet, it’s called “Yartsa gunbu,” which means “summer grass winter worm.” A parasitic fungus first attacks and mummifies the Himalayan ghost moth and produces a fruiting body from the head of the dead ghost moth larva.
